Brisbane, Australia. 49,156 supporters (almost) filled the stadium. The vast majority were supporting the Matildas, the nickname for the Australian women's football team at the FIFA Women's World Cup co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. It was though the supporters of the Super Falcons, the Nigerian women's team, that left the stadium the happiest following their 3-2 win over co-hosts, Australia. The win was deserved. After trailing to a goal five minutes before the break, Nigeria equalised with the last kick of the half and punished the Matildas with two well taken goals before the home side pulled one back with just three minutes to go. Too little too late.
Nigerian fans embraced the moment when they became honorary supporters of the Terrors before the match as they swarmed the Scarf to swear their allegiance. At least for the duration of the photo. (27th July 2023)
Before the game. Nigerian Supporters delight in the privelege
of being in the company of a Terrors scarf.
